Learn more about this campaign:
What is the issue?
Texas Gas Company submitted a request to increase residential rates in 2025. The City of El Paso intervened in the case. The Texas Railroad Commission approved the rate increase for service costs on February 5, 2026.
Who decides and when?
The Texas Railroad Commission will decide what rate it will approve in early 2026. Texas Gas Service and the City went into negotiations, which means that if they agreed on a rate, they would decide instead of the Railroad Commission. Texas Gas Service proposed going from a 27% increase to a 10% increase. Mayor Renard Johnson broke the tie and the majority of council voted no because they want an even lower increase.
