Gathering Our Community
The Sembrando Esperanza Coalition in El Paso is led by residents of 11 of the most historic, resilient, polluted, hottest, and low-income neighborhoods in El Paso. Nearly 100% of their residents are Mexican American or Mexican. These are environmental justice neighborhoods because they are disproportionately burdened by pollution.
The neighborhood organizations that are members of Sembrando Esperanza are:
> La Calavera Neighborhood Association
> Project Regeneracion: Duranguito
> Rio Grande Neighborhood Association
> Los Exes de la Bowie: Segundo Barrio
> St. Francis Xavier Neighborhood Association
> Barrio Lincoln Park Neighborhood Association
> Urban Village Foundation: Val Verde
> Glenwood Street Water Association
> Corbin-Sambrano
> Ramona/Stiles Garden
> Empowering Area Communities & Households (EACH): Montana Vista
Additional members of Sembrando Esperanza are Amanecer People’s Project.
What We Do
The Sembrando Esperanza Coalition member organizations receive training and support for strategic campaigns to address the needs of their individual neighborhoods. Members also work on issues that affect all of the member organizations and, at times, the entire El Paso community. One of these issues is the campaign to oppose El Paso Electric Company’s proposed increase to our electric bills.
