Utility Price Increases

In 2025, three major utilities announced they would increase the price for residents: El Paso Electric Co., Texas Gas Service, and El Paso Water Utility.  Our members decided to get involved because these 3 services are essential to our health and survival and we know that residents in our neighborhoods are already having a hard time paying their bills and many are already making huge sacrifices, like only keeping their refrigerator on during the summer to save electricity, using space heaters during the winter to save gas, or not watering their trees.

Some of these sacrifices risk people’s health in addition to them having to decide whether to pay their utility bills or pay for other necessities like medicine or food.  Each utility has a different process, final decision maker and deadlines.  For each of the three utility companies, we collected signatures for one page comment forms, submitted more detailed comments backed by research, presented them to elected officials, and held press conferences, among other actions. We believe that these 3 utilities are raising prices to accommodate the META data center.
